Stephen Cravens
Founding Partner
Stephen Cravens founded Sutton Hill in 2014 and has since advised numerous private equity firms toward an oversubscribed fundraise.
Previously, Mr. Cravens led the private equity fund analytics group at Greenhill, serving institutional and family office limited partners globally. In this capacity, asset owners leveraged Mr. Cravens for specialized private equity fund due diligence, valuation, and liquidity advisory assignments – including those that involved "sell vs. hold" decisions. Greenhill, through its acquisition of Cogent Partners, pioneered the secondary market for private equity and was at the time the leading sell-side advisor worldwide for LP stakes.
Mr. Cravens was also a member of the investment team at First Reserve, the largest and oldest private equity firm focused on the energy industry, while they deployed the firm's $8 billion Fund XI. He was responsible for all aspects of the investment process, ranging from deal origination and structuring to due diligence, execution, and monitoring. He began his career as an investment banking analyst under Ken Moelis at UBS.
Mr. Cravens founded Young Professionals in Energy in 2005 and continues to serve as its executive director, leading efforts to empower leadership at the local level. YPE is the established global hub for rising leaders in the energy industry with 40,000 members in 40 chapters worldwide.
Mr. Cravens holds a BBA in Finance from the University of Texas and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. He lives in Pittsburgh with his wife, McCall, and three children.
